Vilmos Zsolnay, entrepreneur (1828-1900) [1]
Zrínyi Miklós (Nikolaus Graf Zrinski), Military Commander and Poet(1620-1664)[2]
The Secondary School and Vocational Training School of Commerce, Tourism and Catering in Pécs was established on August 1., 1993 by merging two previously existing schools:
• the Zrínyi Miklós Secondary School of Commerce and Tourism (Zrínyi Miklós Kereskedelmi és Idegenforgalmi Szakközépiskola) and
• the Zsolnay Vilmos Secondary and Vocational Training School (Zsolnay Vilmos Szakközépiskola és Szakmunkásképző)
But the beginnings may be traced back as far as the 19th century, when Ede Porges founded the private Secondary School of Commerce, Pécs (Kereskedelmi Középtanoda) in 1875, which later, in 1908, passed into the city’s ownership and is considered to be the forerunner of the Zrínyi Miklós Secondary School of Commerce and Tourism.
In 1955, the School of Commerce, Pécs (Pécsi Kereskedelmi Tanulóiskola) was established from which after decades of development finally descended the Zsolnay Vilmos Secondary and Vocational Training School.
While the merger of these two institutions especially in the beginning proved to be a bold and challenging venture, our school today makes the best use of of the competence, expertise and knowledge of both lines of its tradition.
